He\u2019s been a friend of mine for a long time. Actually, he\u2019s a very confident guy, a seasoned professional. But what he told me when we last met up, is maybe something, you too, have already experienced:<\/i><\/p>\n<div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:20px\"><\/div>\n<h2>The Situation<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m standing at the conference door. My throat is dry; my hands are sweating. The tie is much too tight and chocking me \u2013 I try to loosen it. I reach for the door handle, but I can\u2019t grasp it. Something is preventing me from pressing down on it. My hand feels heavy, as if it were frozen. I can\u2019t move it. Doubts surface. What I am about to do in the next hour will have an impact on my life. My bosses message was clear: If I don\u2019t manage to convince the clients to sign this contract today, I can kiss my job good-bye. And again, I have this sensation in my throat. It\u2019s like someone is strangling me, I\u2019m gasping for air\u2026\u201c<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:20px\"><\/div>\n<h2>Identify the Emotional Hinderer<\/h2>\n<div class=\"one_fifth\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"388\" height=\"699\" src=\"https:\/\/www.judithhornok.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/laehmende-angst.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-590\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.judithhornok.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/laehmende-angst.jpg 388w, https:\/\/www.judithhornok.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/laehmende-angst-167x300.jpg 167w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 388px) 100vw, 388px\" \/><\/p>\n<h5>\u00a9 \u201eParalyzing Fear\u201c Judith Hornok<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"four_fifth\">\n<p>Attention: \u201cParalyzing Fear\u201d has crept up on Tom and begins, even before he enters the conference room, to manipulate him. It bothers him with questions like \u201cAm I really prepared for this meeting?\u201d and \u201cWhat\u2019s going to happen?\u201d. Then the doubt sent in: \u201cIt won\u2019t be the first time I\u2019ve failed. What if I do it again?\u201d There\u2019s no end to the thoughts spinning in his head: \u201cIt\u2019s not looking good. It could get tricky\u2026I\u2019m sure we won\u2019t sign a contract today!!!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:20px\"><\/div>\n<h2>Sharpen your awareness \u2013 apply a technique<\/h2>\n<div class=\"four_fifth\">\n<p>Before you even turn that doorknob and walk into the conference room, take advantage of the tips experts have to offer, so you can manage paralyzing fear before it gets the upper hand.<\/p>\n<h3>BADER\u2019S TOOL BOX FOR FEAR MANAGMENT<\/h3>\n<p>The former ski jumper and expert in sport science Ferdinand Bader knows all types of fear from his active days as a competitive athlete. For example, the moment when the jumper is crouching on the ramp and looking down. Bader, who himself flew over 210 meters, faced the challenge head on, and put together \u2013 what he todays calls \u201ca tool box for fear managment.\u201d In 2014, he lent some of the methods from this tool box to Carina Vogt at the Olympic games in Sochi. That same year, Vogt became an Olympian medalist, the first in the history of women\u2019s ski jumping.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"one_fifth\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"593\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.judithhornok.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/koffer-neuneuneuneu.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-738\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:20px\"><\/div>\n<h2>A Tool from the Box<\/h2>\n<p>Ferdinand Bader: \u201cEven though most people know this, only a few actually do it: Breathing deeply helps relax you. Especially in stressful situations, we often forget this and our breaths tend to be very flat. That\u2019s why it\u2019s all the more important that the first thing you do is calm down, in order to concentrate 100% on the task at hand \u2013 be it a take-off down the hill, a difficult negotiation or a meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:20px\"><\/div>\n<p>Ferdinand Bader\u00a0suggests: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judithhornok.com\/en\/stress-management-practice-deep-breathing-2\/\">Practice Deep Breathing Techniques<\/a>.<br \/>\n<!--\n\n\n<ul>\n \t\n\n<li>Sit down at a quiet place, where no one can disturb you.<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>Begin to breathe deeply and firmly from the bottom of your ribcage.
